I admit... I'm spoiled on a pinpointer. I've always used a Whites Bullseye II, but have tried others and have been impressed.
Anyone who uses a pinpointer can admit it gets used a LOT. Mine is no exception. Over the years I've replaced switches/buttons, etc..., but never once had I contacted a Whites dealer regarding my problem ~ until recently.
I was on pinpointer #4 or #5 ... (sorry... can't really remember, it's been several years). Same problem was arising... the button wasn't working correctly. I contacted a Whites dealer and asked if there was any way to repair it. They told me they don't repair, but send it to them with a check (the value of shipping costs) and they'd replace it for me. WOOHOO!!!
I did just that, and they sent me a brand new pinpointer to replace my "broken" one. The broken one was no longer under warranty and I explained that to the dealer. But he took it upon himself to take care of the situation. I could have bought a new one, he could have offered to sell me a new one, but that didn't happen.
During this process I've asked two other people highly involved with Whites if there is a way to redesign the button. I haven't received a response. I hope they are working on this situation.
The point? If your pinpointer is defective, check with some dealers. Repairs may not be available, but replacements may. I'm not saying everyone's pinpointer will be replaced with a new one, but repairs are at least worth looking into. I'm happy and a very satisfied customer.
Good luck!
