That looks just about like a dream come true. Paid to play, that's a concept I can grasp. I live a bit far from Indiana, but it is an idea to keep in mind.  I'm sure there are archaeological societies in every state, and in my case province. That could use a detectorist from time to time.

To the list:

I've had several folks write with questions, so I thought I'd go ahead and join this list and try to answer some of the most common ones here.

We have received a number of responses from this and other lists, and HAR will probably try to hire most of the qualified applicants who have shown a keen interest.

We try to keep a database of active metal detector operators to draw from, and in the past we have used a crew of 4-6 with some regularity.  Recently though, we've had less of this sort of work.  Some of our part time employees have moved out of the area, and sadly some have passed away. You can read more about some of our previous projects by following the link below.

HAR history: http://www.har-indy.com/page4.html

In 2010, we are trying to schedule three, and perhaps four, relatively large projects that may each require a crew of 6 or more experienced technicians. HAR will continue accepting applications through the 2-1-2010 deadline, so please feel free to submit an application if you're at all interested.

Download applications here:

http://www.har-indy.com/download.html

In an effort to make the online application process easier, the Adobe PDF application has been edited to include form fields that can be filled in with the free Acrobat Reader software.  Simply download the application to your desktop, fill in the form and e-mail it to rgreen@har-indy.com sometime soon.

We try to set up these projects with at least 2-4 weeks notice; however, this isn't always possible.  It's just the nature of this sort of work.  We do always give as much notice as we can.

Hopefully, I've answered most of the common questions, but if not please feel free to contact me directly.

Please feel free to circulate this information in other places where metal detecting enthusiasts are found.

Thank you for your interest.
