Is it WORTH the investment???
What is everyone's opinion of the sunray probe? I am happy with my vibraprobe, but it interferes with my DFX when I have it cranked up.
Is it worth the investment?

Neil your question is kind of like who makes the best car....I know a guy who won't go any place with out one, when he gets a new detector he won't even use it before he gets it installed. But on the other hand most I know that use a pin pointer swear by the vibra probe.

I've used several different pinpointers and I own a Pocket Uniprobe, probably the deepest seeking probe you can get. However, I use one because it was cheaper to get it than to buy the 6 Sunray probes I would need to have a pinpointer on all my detectors. If I only had one or two detectors I would definitely use the Sunray unit. Although my UniProbe is deeper(which I like) it is also a pulse induction unit which "talks" to your detector if you have them too close together. On most of my detectors I can change the freq of the Uniprobe and it settles them down but on my TDI I usually have to turn off the detector as the two pulse induction units talk to each other.LOL The biggest advantage of the Sunray is that it is just a 1in coil for your detector so you hear it thru your detector headphones and there is no interference problem as with a UniProbe or VibraProbe. I would also think having the tone Id or VDI features of most detectors would be nice in a pinpointer. My best advice would be if you have one detector buy a SunRay, if you use half a dozen detectors maybe you better keep the VibraProbe. Here's a little tip on the interference problem ... when you lay your detector down to use your VibraProbe lay it with the coil away from the hole you are digging. I'm swing a detector left-handed so I either swing the coil 90 degrees to the left and lay it down or set the detector down with the coil pointing almost behind me. That should lessen or eliminate the crosstalk between your detector and pinpointer.

Phil,
This is a great idea. Sometimes I will place the DFX in MENU mode, which also accomplishes the same thing.
The problem is that once the target is recovered, it takes a full minute before the Vibraprobe turns itself off. This seems like an eternity when you are trying to detect and the EMI wont stop.

The sunray is very nice. You can't tell it on your detector if you carry the probe in your pocket. This is also a plus when trying to impress the young ladies. " Is that a Sunray in your pocket? "

i have a sunray on both of my garretts, (1250 & 1350) i simply push the pinpoint button while the probe is hot and easily get several inches of depth plus you can't leave them behind for me that's a real benefit! so i vote in favor of the sunray.

Absolutely worth it!
It is a tool I wouldn't be without!
It acts just like your coil. Reads and sounds just like the coil.
No simple beeps or buzz! You can tell the difference when you have a nail and a coin and a pulltab.
Best probe out there!

I used a Sun Ray for the first time a week ago tomorrow. After using it, I had to own one! It arrived in the mail today!! I have always used a vibraprobe. I loved it....that is until I used a Sun Ray.

the Sun-rays are incredible! if you have one machine or can afford one for each machine I think it is the way to go for sure, they are very durable and take a lot of abuse, they get good depth but most of all... you can hear the same tone that you were hearing with your big coil.
light weight, wont lose it, wont leave it at home, can use it in pinpoint or discriminate mode and very durable.. you wont be dissapointed if you get one.
